Following up on this past spring's City of Caterpillar reunion activities, I took a quick trip to New Orleans at the end of October to catch Pageninetynine, Majority Rule, City of Caterpillar, and Thou at Zeitgeist Arts Center. I'd previously seen Pageninetynine in Boston in September, along with Majority Rule, but this show was special. The family tree of the Richmond V.A./Washington D.C bands stemming from and relating to Pageninetynine is vast, so getting this batch of bands together one more time was something not to be missed.
Masterminded by Thou vocalist Bryan Funck, who was responsible for many of these bands tours through New Orleans in the early 2000s, the night went as smoothly as you could imagine for a bunch of punks cramming into an art space the night before Halloween. A few broken strings, but no broken bones, the crowd shared a wild night with a group of bands that once lived on, and are now ressurected by, the ethos of "Love your friends, die laughing."
